Interview Yaew

Interview with: Chinese Theatre
Date: May 26, 2005

So, first off tell us a bit about your musical history before Chinese Theatre. So what started you off into the world of electronic?

I have been involved in the electronic scene since 1988. And I have played in a lot of bands. All from EBM to Synthpop. Some bands that I still feel for are Melody Lane, Open Minded, De!Funct and Sayonara. I have some thoughts about picking the best from all those bands and release it under the name Chinese Theatre.

In the middle of june will "synthphony remixed vol 5" (2005,22th june) be released. Made by Chinese Theatre Remix, what can you tell us about this release?

It is a little bit funny. I contacted David (from Synthphony Records) in the end of November 2004 and told him that I was interested to doing a remix cd. I had just heard about this project that Synthphony Records has started. They released remix cd with just one remixer for 10-14 bands. And when I get back answer from him he told me that he already was going to contact me about releasing a remix cd with me. That was really fun. And now a half year later my cd will be out. I can promisse you that this is a retro synthpop remix album. But I have also included italo disco, ebm, futurepop and dance music in the songs. So I think there will be a remix for everyone on the album.

You having remixed Colony 5, Yazoo, The Twins, Freezepop, Backclash, and Sero Overdose. Any plans for more remix or cover songs down the line?

Yes of course. Chinese Theatre is in the first hand a remix service. But i will also do covers for forthcoming tribute compilations. I will not sing on those covers by myself I will ask interested people to do this for me. And I have also done a lot of songs by myself that I want to have released under the name Chinese Theatre. I will do the same as I do with my covers. Ask interested people to sing and write lyrics for me. My Idea is a little bit like Dj Rams project Virtual Server.

Ok, for you here to end the interview...now of course a Chinese interview:

Birthplace: Sweden

Current Residence: Rimforsa, Sweden

Birth Sign: Vattenmannen (Aquarius)

Role in Chinese Theatre: I have all the role in Chinese Theatre for the moment. But I will probably add some friends to this project in the near future.

Past bands/projects: Melody Lane, Sayonara, De!Funct, Mordor, Open Minded, A Dead Victim and a lot more.

Favorite thing: My Computer. I do all my music with software program today. Its so much easier.

Coolest thing that has happened to us (musically) this far: The late 70´s and the 80´s...Without that I don´t know how synthmusic should sound today...

Favorite songs: This one is hard. But one of my favourite songs are Tv Glare with Absolute. But there is so many...

Worst thing in the world: Of course It must Be Religions..;)...I mean...war.

Favorite movie(s): A swedich cult movie called G. It was about music bands in Sweden in the 80´s and there is many new romantic and synthpop songs in that movie.

Favorite food: Grilled food and Chinese food.

Things I love (other than music): Girls hehe. My children, SUMMER, Spring, beers, parties and a lot of other things of course.

Goals/dreams: To be famous and successful. But one of the goal is of course to release toons of albums.

Misc: I really like to see more orginallity in the electronic scene. There is many good acts but to many just repeating and repeating where should it ends.

Anything else you'd like to add before we go, and what can we expect from you in the near future?

You can absolutely expect more remixes from "Chinese Theatre" and I hope there will be a release with my own music too. I have discussed it with a couple of people and I have got some good contacts that will help me produce the whole thing. But I also looking for a label that could release this album. There is a couple that have showed their interest but I want to hear with more.
