Artist: Tribute Compilation
Title: Chinese Theatre Featuring !Distain & Strangel - A Tribute To Alphaville / New Horizons
Label: New Horizons
Format: CD-r
Date: August 23 2008
Rated: StarStarStarStarStar

A somewhat interesting release that features three-acts from the present Electronic scene - two from the Synth Pop side of the fence including Chinese Theatre who where behind arranging the musical aspect of this very-release along with the additional involvement of !Distain front-man Alexander Braun with the release itself paying tribute to Alphaville on what was originally a release that was intended for the members of the Alphaville New Horizons fan-club, and at that a limited-edition release of no-more than a mere one-hundred copies that features four-versions of two-tracks in Sounds Like A Melody & Universal Daddy from the bands first and second-albums with the addition of extended 12" style versions for each-track in question which are in themselves musically perfectly reproduced by Chinese Theatre member Krister Petersson who adds something of his bands own distinctive eighties-edge to each-track with !Distains Alexander Braun adding his smooth Germanic-tones that effortlessly ease their way through an excellent version of Sounds Like A Melody that neatly skips-along, while Richard Flow from the Swedish Future-Pop duo Strangel adds his vocals to the similar pace of an equally excellent version of Universal Daddy while also somewhat uncannily sounding like S.P.O.C.K front-man Alexander Hoffmann, while we are also additionally treated to those fantastic extended-versions, especially so during the full seven-minutes plus of Sounds Like A Melody. The only disappointment here with this release is the fact that it's a limited-edition release, and at that for fan-club members of the band itself. But, overall, a perfect tribute. © DK
