Title: Chinese Theatre - Breathe In Breathe Out
Rated: StarStarStarStarStar
Date: January 11, 2006

This is the debut single from the Swedish soloist Krister Peterson under the name of Chinese Theatre, itself an increasingly familiar name on the Synth Pop scene over the past year largely through a number of fine remixes that eventually led to the release of the excellent "Synthphony Remixed V5" album and the appearance of this very track on the second volume of the "Yet Another Electro - Compilation" which further lead to the release of this single.

The single itself features five tracks with four remixes of "Breathe In Breathe Out" and the additional bonus track in the excellent, and Trans-X like instrumental "Time Traveller". But, in reviewing the above compilation, I had stated that "Breathe In Breathe Out" was an excellent hard-edged stomping mid-paced number and it was one of the outstanding tracks on the compilation itself, a strong and solid track with the addition of the excellent female vocalist Maja-Stina Olsson. This was certainly one track that clearly had the potential to be released as a single, and all though done so in a limited number of just 40 copies, I'm pleased to see its eventual release.

The "Original Version" featured here is I would assume the version that first appeared on that compilation, while in addition to this there are three remixes from the French acts Foretaste & People Theatre, with the "Foretaste Remix" for me being the best of these three with Foretaste transforming the track itself as it rolls along nicely at a steady and solid pace while adding their own distinct brand of Synth Pop, but with the chorus featuring the clever addition of their female vocalist Creature XX and the duel-female vocals balanced nicely through out the track itself to complete an excellent remix, while in regards of the People Theatre remixes, the first, the "Come True Remix" is for me the better of the two featured here as it gives the track itself a steady, stomping feel, while their second remix, the "Deep Breath Remix" adds an over-long club feel to the track with a slow, thumbing rhythm and solid hard bass, but for me its clearly too long at just over six minutes, while despite both remixes being largely very-good, particularly the excellent "Come True Remix", they both somewhat lose the impact of the original version rather than enhancing it and adding to it in the way Foretaste did.

But, this is a very-promising debut release that holds well for the forthcoming album, and one to look forward to.

For Now
